  14/ Clinical Research Project Launched to Advance Medical Studies

Amman, Feb. 18 (Petra) – The Ministry of Health launched a clinical research project on Tuesday, in collaboration with the Arab League's Arab Company for Drug Industries and Medical Appliances (ACDIMA), to develop innovative and safe medications and improve the quality of life of patients.

The project, focused on conducting advanced clinical studies, training medical personnel on up-to-date research practices, and contributing to pharmaceutical development, was incorporated into the Ministry’s 2023-2025 strategic plan under the governance goal of an enhancing scientific health research and putting in place structured research protocols.

Three specialized research studies have already been conducted: vaporization with hydroxychloroquine sulfate, the application of nuclear techniques to measure body fat and human metrics, and a national survey evaluating thyroid disorders. Additional studies are in progress on such diseases as ulcerative colitis and lung cancer.

To facilitate clinical research, the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has accredited the Irbid Field Hospital as a certified site for pharmaceutical studies, equipped with an intensive care unit and designated research facilities.

Health Minister Firas Hawari emphasized that investing in research is essential for boosting health systems and improving healthcare services, adding that the project would advance research capabilities, foster medical innovation, and ensure ethical clinical practices.

He also stressed the importance of enhancing legislation to guarantee the accuracy and safety of clinical studies, which would position Jordan as a regional hub for medical research and boost investment in the pharmaceutical sector.

ACDIMA Chairman Khaled Rabiah announced the launch of a clinical research center within the Ministry of Health to oversee ongoing studies, adding that ACDIMA is managing the project under the Ministry’s supervision and has allocated dedicated facilities and resources to support its execution.

JFDA Director General Nizar Mheidat affirmed Jordan’s leadership in pharmaceutical research, citing a strong legislative and scientific framework. He reiterated JFDA’s commitment to supporting the initiative and ensuring its success in advancing healthcare in the Kingdom.
