Amman, Feb. 17 (Petra) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said it is time for a global agreement on pandemics, warning that "if it doesn't happen now, it will never happen."

Speaking at the opening of the 13th round of negotiations at the WHO headquarters in Geneva on Monday, Ghebreyesus stressed that no country can face the next pandemic alone.

He added, "We remember the hard-earned lessons from COVID-19, which claimed nearly 20 million lives and continues to kill. This is why we are here: to protect future generations from the impact of future pandemics."
The aim of these negotiations is to finalize the agreement before the World Health Assembly’s annual meeting in May.

In December, WHO member states decided to draft an agreement on pandemic prevention and preparedness to avoid the significant mistakes made during the COVID-19 period.
