34/ UN launches humanitarian appeal to raise $6 billion for Sudan
New York, Feb. 17 (Petra) – The United Nations launched a humanitarian appeal on Monday for $6 billion to avert a humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan. Martin Griffiths, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, stated that the UN’s 2025 humanitarian and refugee response plans for Sudan aim to assist nearly 26 million people within the country and across the region who are facing desperate conditions. According to the UN, nearly two years of conflict have resulted in a staggering 12 million people being displaced within Sudan and across its borders. Griffiths emphasized that civilians are paying a heavy price, with relentless bombardment and airstrikes continuing to kill and injure civilians while destroying critical infrastructure, including hospitals. //Petra// AF
