29/ Social Development Ministry, UNFPA sign cooperation agreement

Amman, Feb. 17 (Petra) – Minister of Social Development, Wafa Bani Mustafa, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Jordan, Himyar Abdulmoghni, signed a cooperation agreement on Monday to support the ministry's social service offices in family and juvenile protection management.

The agreement aims to enhance 19 social service offices across the kingdom, which specialize in handling domestic violence cases.

During the signing, which was attended by UNFPA Programs Coordinator Tsovinar Harutyunyan, Bani Mustafa emphasized the importance of the partnership in advancing joint programs. She highlighted the need for a structured case management approach to categorize domestic violence cases in a way that ensures the best interests of individuals.

She also underscored the importance of training social workers, enhancing their skills both theoretically and practically, and ensuring that this collaboration yields significant achievements within the agreement’s timeframe.

For his part, Abdulmoghni commended the Ministry of Social Development’s efforts, noting that they align with the UNFPA’s goals and programs.

He outlined the UNFPA’s three key focus areas: policy development, institutional capacity-building, and awareness programs related to domestic violence.
