28/ Economic Affairs, Finance Ministers visit new Amman Customs Center
Amman, Feb. 17 (Petra) – Muhannad Shehadeh, Minister of State for Economic Affairs, and Abdelhakim Shibli, Minister of Finance, accompanied by Director General of the Jordan Customs Department (JCD), Brigadier General Ahmad Akalik, inspected the new Amman Customs Center (Al-Madounah) on Monday. The ministers reviewed the progress of customs procedures, emphasizing the need to overcome all obstacles and facilitate trade exchange processes to improve the investment environment in line with the Economic Modernization Vision. They called for completing all customs procedures related to Ramadan goods and Eid al-Fitr supplies, prioritizing them in clearance and providing necessary facilitations for all goods to save time and effort, in accordance with the legislation governing customs work. Shehadeh and Shibli also attended the JCD’s celebration of International Customs Day, which is observed on January 26 each year under the theme "Customs Fulfilling Its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity." In a speech delivered during the celebration, Akalik said that Jordan is a nation of institutions with deep roots based on institutional work across all government sectors. He added that the JCD is one of the national institutions with economic and security dimensions, striving to enhance the investment environment, facilitate trade exchange processes, and maintain economic and security aspects. He emphasized that the Jordanian economy is strong and resilient, supported by robust economic indicators, and has consistently overcome economic crises thanks to God and the Hashemite leadership. The celebration included a film presentation about the Jordan Customs Department and the awarding of certificates granted by the World Customs Organization (WCO) to deserving partners from the private sector and the JCD. //Petra// AF
