39/ Civil Defense Teams Respond to Vehicle, Pedestrian Trappings During Weather Depression
Amman, Dec. 29 (Petra) The Public Security Directorate (PSD) said Civil Defense teams dealt, during the impact of the prevailing weather depression, with a number of cases involving vehicles and people trapped in several areas across the Kingdom’s governorates as a result of flash floods and rising rainwater levels, in addition to handling numerous reports of water being pumped out of homes and public roads. The directorate said its specialized personnel rescued those trapped, whether inside their vehicles or while walking on roads, and secured them in safe locations without any injuries recorded. The teams also handled cases of rainwater accumulation using designated pumping equipment inside homes and basement levels, as well as on public streets that witnessed disruptions to traffic movement due to the mixing of water with stones and soil and the formation of mud. The PSD noted that field crews were at the highest levels of readiness and preparedness since the onset of the weather depression and exerted extensive and continuous efforts, responding to all reports received through the Operations and Control Room (911) around the clock with professionalism and responsibility. The directorate also renewed its emphasis on the need for the safe use of heating appliances of all kinds, the necessity of providing proper ventilation inside homes from time to time, and not leaving heaters operating during sleep to avoid suffocation incidents or fires. The Public Security Directorate concluded by stressing the importance of calling the unified emergency number (911) throughout the Kingdom when assistance is needed or to report any emergency. //Petra// AF
