44/ Amman Statement sets roadmap for Arab social development implementation
Amman, Dec. 17 (Petra)- The High-Level Arab Conference on the implementation of the declaration issued by the Second World Summit for Social Development concluded in Amman on Wednesday. The event saw wide participation from Arab Ministers of Social Affairs and was organized by the Jordanian Ministry of Social Development in coordination with the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Social Affairs Ministers at the League of Arab States. Participants at the conference affirmed that the "Amman Statement" constitutes a practical executive document and a clearly defined roadmap. It aims to transition the Doha Political Declaration, issued by the Second World Summit for Social Development, from a theoretical framework to an implementation phase on the ground, directly impacting the lives of citizens across Arab nations. Discussions emphasized that the Amman Statement is a procedural and executive document containing clear mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of the Doha Declaration through a specialized committee. The document focuses on three fundamental pillars representing priorities for Arab social work: enhancing employment opportunities and providing a decent work environment; qualification, training, and capacity building; and strengthening social inclusion, particularly for persons with disabilities, the elderly, orphans, and those without family support, in addition to addressing the phenomenon of multidimensional poverty. Participants highlighted the importance of strengthening joint Arab action in social development fields. they expressed appreciation for Jordan’s hosting of the Arab Center for Social Studies and Multidimensional Poverty, describing it as an important research and executive platform that supports decision-makers and aids in the development of evidence-based social policies. On the sidelines of the conference, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Jordan and Turkiye. Additionally, several bilateral meetings were held between Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, a step reflecting the expansion of Arab cooperation and the exchange of expertise in the fields of development and social protection. The conference, attended by representatives of UN, international, and Arab organizations as well as civil society institutions, included four specialized working sessions. These followed an opening session held under the patronage of Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and in the presence of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The sessions discussed various issues related to the implementation of the Doha Declaration, the challenges facing Arab social policies, and ways to enhance integration and coordination among Arab countries to achieve comprehensive and sustainable social development. The 45th session of the Council of Arab Social Affairs Ministers is scheduled to convene tomorrow, Thursday. During this session, Jordan will assume the presidency of the council from the Kingdom of Bahrain, amid a comprehensive working agenda. //Petra// AF
