31/ Lower House passes 2026 General Budget Law by majority vote
Amman, Dec. 11 (Petra) - The Lower House of Representatives approved the 2026 General Budget Law by a majority vote during a session chaired by Speaker Mazen Qadi. During the voting session, held Thursday, eighty-six lawmakers voted in favor of the 2026 budget. The House approved the 2026 budget after debates that lasted approximately 25 hours over four days, during which 126 lawmakers spoke. In the first session of dilberations, held last Monday, 25 MPs spoke for six hours, while the second session convened last Tuesday, 32 lawmakers debated the budget for five hours. In the third session, held Wednesday, 41 deputies spoke for eight hours, while in today's session, 28 MPs spoke for six hours. Following the passage of the draft law, the Senate's Finance Committee will begin debating the 2026 budget and submit its recommendations to the Upper Chamber for approval. The budget will then be ratified by Royal Decree and published in the Official Gazette. The House began debate of the 2026 budget last Monday after hearing the report from the Finance Committee on the draft law, presented by the committee's rapporteur, Mohammad Bustangi. The Finance Committee had approved the draft law on December 7, 2025, after holding 104 meetings over 13 days. Then, the House referred the 2026 budget to its Finance Committee on November 11, 2025, which then discussed it with ministries, government units, and institutions. //Petra// AG
