12/ Petra Authority's Advances Disability Inclusion, Allocates JD450,000 in Support Since 2019
Petra, Dec. 4 (Petra) – Chairperson of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Fares Braizat on Thursday underscored the Authority’s ongoing commitment to strengthening disability inclusion across the Petra region, noting that a portion of entrance fees to the Petra archaeological site is allocated to the Nabataean Capital Cooperative Association (NCCA) to fund programs serving people with disabilities. He said total support since 2019 has reached nearly JD450,000, enabling the implementation of multiple community-led projects. Braizat made the remarks during a visit, accompanied by Commissioner for Sustainable Development Fatima Hilalat, to the "My Opportunity" dry-cleaning workshop, a model initiative providing full employment for people with disabilities, in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. He highlighted the Authority’s cooperation with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in issuing identification cards to facilitate access to services and improve social and economic integration. Hilalat detailed additional initiatives implemented in partnership with the NCCA, including a cafeteria project at the Authority’s park aimed at creating employment opportunities for people with disabilities. She said 80 percent of the project’s construction costs were financed through the disability fund under the "Nabataean Life" program, supported by the Authority and managed by the Association. The "My Opportunity" project, she added, stands as the only facility in the region fully operated by people with disabilities, with the Authority providing the space and logistical support needed for its establishment. She said the initiative strengthens economic empowerment and enhances the independence of individuals with disabilities in the local community. //Petra// AJ
