12/ Government Communication Ministry, GCC media delegation discuss strengthening cooperation

Amman, Aug. 18 (Petra) – Secretary General of the Ministry of Government Communication Zaid Nawaiseh underlined the Kingdom's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, particularly in the field of media.

Nawaiseh made the remarks on Monday while receiving at the Ministry’s headquarters a delegation from the GCC news agencies visiting the Kingdom as part of an exchange program between the Jordan News Agency (Petra) and Gulf news agencies, in coordination with the GCC General Secretariat. The meeting was attended by Petra Chairman of the Board of Directors Nabil Ghaishan and Director General Fayrouz Mubaideen.

He said media cooperation has evolved in recent years to take an institutional dimension under the GCC umbrella, noting that a series of meetings in Amman and Riyadh have focused on exchanging expertise, new media and social media engagement, artificial intelligence, combating fake and misleading news, and addressing the challenges facing media institutions.

Nawaiseh stressed that the meeting reflects ongoing cooperation between Jordan and the GCC countries, particularly in media exchange between Petra and its counterparts in the Gulf, as well as the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation.

He highlighted the role of the Ministry of Government Communication, which was established under the government’s administrative modernization plan guided by royal directives. The ministry, he detailed, is tasked with conveying the state’s message, engaging with media in its new form, and promoting a modern and civil image of Jordan. It also supports the implementation of political modernization, the Economic Modernization Vision, and public sector reforms.

He outlined a number of initiatives launched by the Ministry, including training and qualifying government spokespeople, developing media literacy programs, and launching the weekly "Government Communication Forum," an interactive platform that brings together officials, journalists, and social media audiences to discuss pressing public issues. The Ministry also introduced the "Ida'at" or Illuminations program, which produces youth-focused awareness content on media literacy.

Ghaishan expressed appreciation for the visit of the GCC media delegation, while Mubaideen stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and learning from Jordan’s media experience. She also extended thanks to the Jordan Tourism Board, the Jordan Chamber of Industry, and official bodies in Jerash and Ajloun for their contributions to the success of the visit.

The GCC delegation, for their part, voiced their pride in visiting the ministry and learning about its programs and initiatives in advancing media and communication.
