10/ Licensed Building Areas Rise 26% in H1 2025
Amman, Aug. 18 (Petra) -- The Department of Statistics on Monday issued its monthly report on construction activity and building permits in Jordan, showing licensed building areas reached 4.77 million square meters in the first half of this year, compared with 3.78 million square meters in the same period of 2024, an increase of 26.2 percent. The total number of building permits issued reached 11,700 in the first half of 2025, up from 10,197 in the same period of 2024, reflecting 14.7 percent growth. For licensing purposes, housing accounted for 3.66 million square meters, up 19.6 percent from 3.06 million square meters a year earlier, while non-residential buildings reached 1.11 million square meters, compared with 722,000 square meters, a jump of 53.7 percent. Housing represented 76.7 percent of the total licensed area, and non-residential 23.3 percent. By region, the central region accounted for 71.9 percent of licensed building space, up 4.9 percent. The northern region made up 20 percent, down 13 percent, while the southern region held 8.1 percent, down 4.7 percent. At the governorate level, Amman had the highest share of new licensed residential space, with 13.1 percent of the total and 0.413 square meters per capita. Mafraq recorded the lowest share at 3.8 percent, equivalent to 0.119 square meters per capita. New buildings and additions to existing ones made up 63.5 percent of the total licensed space, while existing structures accounted for 36.5 percent. New and expanded building areas totaled 3.03 million square meters, up 21.2 percent from 2.5 million square meters in the same period last year. //Petra// AO
