9/ Princess Basma chairs National Commission for Women meeting

Amman, April 19 (Petra) – HRH Princess Basma bint Talal, Chairperson of the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), on Saturday presided over a meeting of the commission's board.

She stressed the importance of endorsing the JNCW law as "a key turning point in the journey of Jordanian women and the commission's work," and is in line with the Kingdom's modernization tracks.

The draft legislation is a major achievement for Jordanian women, and contributes to bolstering the commission's role to enhance the progress of women and invigorate their participation across all political, economic, and social fields, Her Highness said.

The law, she added, underscores the importance of women's involvement in the Kingdom's development process in all fields, commending the commission's efforts in cooperation with relevant authorities.

For her part, Inter-Ministerial Committee on Women's Empowerment Chair, Wafa Bani Mustafa, said the legislation is a milestone for the state and Jordanian women, stressing the ministerial committee's commitment to working with the JNCW to serve and empower Jordanian women.

Also addressing the meeting, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Moneim Odat, said the enactment of the law is within the framework of the Jordanian state's efforts to empower women, youth, and all social segments, and mirrors the political will and support for Jordanian women's role in the national modernization and development scheme.

JNCW Secretary-General Maha Ali stressed the importance of the draft law in framing the committee's work to enhance the role of women and empower them in various fields.

The commission, she said, adopts a collaborative approach with official and civil society organizations and promotes the integration of all efforts.

During the meeting, Ali presented the commission's 2024 report, including key achievements and priorities for 2025, within the framework of policies and legislation, economic, political, and social empowerment, and community awareness.

She also presented the preliminary results of the mid-term evaluation of the National Strategy for Women 2020-2025, which was prepared by the commission.
