12/ Jordan, Turkey Parliament Heads Reaffirm Support for Palestinian Rights
Istanbul, April 18 (Petra) -- Speaker of Lower House of Parliament Ahmed Safadi met with his Turkish counterpart, Numan Kurtulmu?, President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, in Istanbul on Thursday ahead of a meeting for the Group of Parliaments in Support of Palestine in Istanbul on Friday, calling for an end to the war on Gaza. Safadi emphasized that Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, continues its duty to support the justice of Palestinian rights and is making all efforts to stop the genocidal war on Gaza. He also highlighted Jordan's commitment to defending Jerusalem's identity and protecting it through the Hashemite custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in the holy city. The Jordanian Parliament Speaker stressed the importance of Jordanian-Turkish cooperation and coordination, which was evident during the Syria neighboring countries' meetings attended by officials from both brotherly nations. Safadi called for continued parliamentary cooperation to serve both countries and the central causes of the Arab nation. For his part, Turkish Grand National Assembly President Numan Kurtulmu? stated that his country supports and affirms the importance of the Hashemite custodianship of holy sites in preserving the identity of Jerusalem. He noted that the First Conference of Parliaments Supporting Palestine bears a significant responsibility in pressuring international parliaments to stop the genocidal war on Gaza. Kurtulmu? emphasized the importance of Jordanian and Turkish roles in supporting the Palestinian cause until the Palestinian people achieve their just rights.
