27/ National Media Pillar of Security, Says Government Spokesperson
Amman, April 17 (Petra) – Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani on Thursday stressed that national media is a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s security, underlining the importance of accurate information and balanced discourse in countering misinformation and distortion campaigns. During a meeting with the head and members of the Karama Committee for Veterans Affairs at the ministry’s headquarters, Momani praised the role of Jordan's security services in maintaining national stability through their professionalism and commitment to a firm value system. He noted that Jordanian media has demonstrated a deep awareness and dedication to national values, unlike media in some countries that have contributed to unrest. The meeting, attended by retired Lieutenant General Ghazi Tayeb, head of the committee, along with Secretary-General Hussein Maharmeh and Secretary-General of the Ministry Zaid Nawaiseh, highlighted the unity and role of all Jordanians in safeguarding national security. "When it comes to national security, every Jordanian is a soldier in their own right," Momani said. He emphasized that the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II serves as a guiding framework for all state institutions in promoting national identity, preserving security, and supporting just causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause. He said this vision has enabled Jordan to weather regional and global challenges while maintaining cohesion and stability. Momani affirmed that Jordan’s support for the Palestinian people is rooted in a national, moral, and humanitarian responsibility, citing the humanitarian airdrops delivered by the Jordan Armed Forces. Jordan will remain committed to its people and its just causes and has consistently upheld its responsibilities toward the Arab and Islamic nations, he added. Addressing the retirees, Momani said, "You are comrades-in-arms to His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. Your sacrifices are a source of pride for Jordan, and the medals on your chests symbolize loyalty and constant readiness to defend the homeland." He highlighted the pivotal role of the Jordan Armed Forces and security services throughout the nation’s history, noting their sacrifices in defending the country and preserving its sovereignty. Commenting on recent developments, Momani praised the General Intelligence Department for thwarting a plot targeting the Kingdom’s security and citizen safety, underscoring the courage and professionalism of its personnel. He warned of the threat posed by obscurantist ideologies aimed at destabilizing society and called for instilling a culture of moderation and dialogue as a core value to bolster national awareness. Momani also underscored the importance of youth participation in political life, pointing out that young people make up nearly 67 percent of Jordan’s population. He encouraged harnessing their energy for the nation’s benefit, particularly as Jordan sees inspiring success stories in entrepreneurship and the digital economy. For his part, Committee Chairman Ghazi Tayeb said military retirees remain an essential component of the national fabric, capable of contributing to the political and intellectual spheres. He praised the national media and the Ministry of Government Communication for embodying His Majesty’s vision and countering divisive narratives. Maharmeh noted that the committee, established in 2001, seeks to amplify the voices of military retirees and highlight their dignified standing in society. Committee members reiterated their unwavering support for the Hashemite leadership and their rejection of any attempt to undermine the security services or national institutions. They affirmed their continued loyalty and determination in the face of emerging challenges. //Petra// AJ
