29/ 8 Jordanian climate change adaptation trainers graduated

Amman, April 16 (Petra) – Mutah University and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Jordan on Wednesday celebrated graduation of 8 trainers in the field of climate change adaptation.

The effort came as part of the joint agreement signed under the project: " Building resilience to cope with climate change in Jordan through improving water use efficiency in the agriculture sector (BRCCJ)," funded by the Green Climate Fund and implemented by FAO in Jordan, in cooperation with the ministries of water, agriculture, and environment, and the United Nations Development Programme.

The benficiaries received "intensive" training on integrating climate-smart solutions into the agricultural sector, enabling 400 women from the governorates of Madaba, Karak, Tafilah, and Ma'an to adapt to climate change in a later phase of the project, according to a joint statement.

The statement added that the step would help the beneficiaries improve life quality of their families and communities and promote "sustainable" development.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, FAO Representative in Jordan, Nabil Assaf, underlined FAO's "deep" commitment to supporting efforts to address climate change and its impacts on the Kingdom's agricultural sector and rural communities, contributing to achieving Jordan's food security.

Assaf indicated that the organization is honored today to cooperate with Mutah University to graduate 8 "leading" female trainers in the field of climate change adaptation over a six-month period.

Meanwhile, Dr. Amin Aqel, Vice President of Mutah University for Scientific Faculties, and Dr. Salama Saleh Naimat, stated that the trainers would form the "nucleus" for raising awareness and training 400 women from the four target governorates, 100 female trainees from each on climate change adaptation.

This vision aims to empower women in society to engage in decision-making processes to promote "sustainable" development and address climate change impacts, Aqel and Naimat pointed out.
