72/ Tourism Ministry celebrates Flag Day with nationwide patriotic events
Amman, April 15 (Petra) – The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities will hold a national event tomorrow, Wednesday, to celebrate Flag Day, which falls on April 16 each year. The celebration will take place in front of the Ministry’s headquarters in Amman, with the attendance of Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Lina Annab, as well as ministry staff and officials. The event will feature the hoisting of the Jordanian flag at the Ministry’s flagpole, the playing of the royal anthem, and the singing of the national anthem, creating a patriotic atmosphere that reflects pride in national identity and loyalty to the homeland and its Hashemite leadership. Jordanian flags will also be distributed to tourism directorates in all governorates to encourage community participation in this cherished national occasion. According to a ministry statement, Minister Annab emphasized that the Jordanian flag symbolizes sovereignty and national unity, embodying deep-rooted national values. She highlighted the importance of instilling a spirit of loyalty and active engagement in national events. Tourism directorates across various governorates will organize celebratory events that reflect national pride and allegiance to the Hashemite leadership. These activities fall under the ministry’s national campaign, which includes decorating tourist sites and visitor centers with Jordanian flags and conducting field programs in collaboration with official and community institutions. Key Activities by Governorate: - Mafraq: The Directorate will host an event at the Umm al-Jimal Visitor Center, featuring traditional performances, national songs, and hospitality offerings, in the presence of the local mayor, administrative officials, and security services. - Zarqa: The directorate will take part in the governorate’s executive council celebration and has adorned its offices and several visitor centers, including Hallabat and Qasr Amra, as well as the Azraq Development Project site, with flags. - Madaba: Events include raising the flag, folkloric performances by the Zain troupe, flag distribution in collaboration with Majd International School, a student-led flag painting activity, and a balloon release in the colors of the Jordanian flag. - Balqa: Celebrations at the Aqaba Bin Nafi Visitor Center will feature a flag-raising ceremony, folkloric performances, sweets and coffee distribution, and balloon and kite flying. A DJ will also participate in a festive segment. Additionally, the directorate will join a vehicle parade in collaboration with the Greater Salt Municipality and will raise a 1-kilometer-long flag chain along the Sixty Street. - Ajloun: At the Ajloun Visitor Center, the event includes a flag-raising ceremony with scouts, traditional performances by the Kufranjah troupe, a balloon release from the Ajloun Castle rooftop, electric car tours decorated with flags, and the distribution of hospitality items and souvenirs to visitors. - Tafilah: In coordination with the Directorate of Education, the celebration will feature a scouting show, poetry recitations, and a flag-raising at the tourism mural near the castle. The main tourist street will be decorated with flags, with strong local community participation. - Ma'an: Events include the national anthem, folkloric performances by the Ma’an troupe, distribution of chocolate and medals in flag colors, Arabic coffee and refreshments, and a traditional Jordanian dish, rice with sour yogurt (ruz hamed). - Karak: In front of Karak Castle, a flag-raising ceremony will be followed by traditional performances by a locatroupe , and distribution of coffee, sweets, and flags, in cooperation with the Directorate of Antiquities. - Jerash: A patriotic event will take place at the Oval Plaza in the archaeological site, with the governor of Jerash in attendance. It will include flag-raising with school scouts, national music performances, and refreshments for visitors. - Irbid: Folkloric and national performances will be delivered by the Kafr Jayiz Folk Arts Troupe, with the distribution of flags, hats, and beverages, and decorations across the site. - Amman: Celebrations will take place at the Amman Citadel and Umm ar-Rasas. Activities include flag-raising, folkloric and patriotic performances, and the serving of Arabic coffee to guests and visitors. As part of the Flag Day national campaign, the ministry has launched the official hashtag #ÚáãäÇ_ÚÇáò (#OurFlagIsHigh) across its social media platforms, aiming to boost public engagement and proudly celebrate the Jordanian national identity. //Petra// AF
