45/ French press, media groups decry unprecedented massacre of journalists in Gaza

Amman, April 14 (Petra) – Press organizations in France have condemned what they described as an "unprecedented massacre" of their colleagues in Gaza, where around 200 journalists have been killed over the past 18 months.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the organizations said, "The Israeli army is seeking to impose a media blackout on Gaza and silence witnesses to the war crimes committed by its forces as much as possible."

Among the signatories are the National Union of Journalists, the General Confederation of Labour (CGT), the French Democratic Confederation of Labour (CFDT), Reporters Without Borders, the International Federation of Journalists, and around 40 other press groups or editorial teams, including AFP.

In an article published by Le Monde, the groups stressed that "this effort to obstruct the flow of information is also evident in the Israeli government’s refusal to allow foreign media into the Gaza Strip."

The organizations called for simultaneous demonstrations on Wednesday in front of the Bastille Opera in Paris and at the Old Port in Marseille.
