Aqaba, April 14 (Petra) -- Aqaba Chamber of Commerce distributed 3,000 flags and pictures of His Majesty King Abdullah II to public institutions and government departments, part of the Kingdom's celebrations of Jordan Flag Day on April 16.

Squares, plazas and buildings were decorated with the national flag in a national display reflecting a spirit of unity, belonging, and pride in the occasion, which symbolizes the state's sovereignty and unity of its people under one banner.

A team of divers of the Aqaba Diving Association hoisted Jordanian flags in a ceremony, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, to mark the occasion.

"This initiative is in line with royal directives to promote the spirit of citizenship and belonging," said President of the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce Nael Kabariti, adding that Jordan Flag Day is "an occasion to recall the sacrifices and heroism of Jordanians in building the nation and honoring its flag."

Civil service employees and local citizens voiced their appreciation for "this patriotic gesture" by the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce that promotes national identity and boosts community cohesion.
