21/ EU: Gaza humanitarian crisis worsens, food rots at gates

Amman, April 14 (Petra) -- Israel's blocking of humanitarian aid from crossing into the Gaza Strip has caused a humanitarian crisis as aid is piling up outside the strip and food is rotting, said EU Commissioner for Quality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib.

In a statement Monday ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, Lahbib spoke of urgent priorities as Israel pursues the genocide against the Palestinians: reinstatement of a ceasefire and facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid, warning of a humanitarian crisis due to the denial of the entry of aid.

"For over a month, no aid, no food, no electricity, not even a single piece of bread has arrived," she said, adding although warehouses outside Gaza are stocked with food, food is running out in Gaza and rotting outside it because "we cannot enter the area, and at least 100 children are killed or injured every day."

Lahbib said Israel refused to approve humanitarian aid missions to operate in the region, and that no international staff are in Gaza and the West Bank.

She said the situation in the occupied West Bank is also deteriorating, as "forced displacement and violence became the norm." "That's why we need to take decisive political action," she added.

Lahbib said that following the foreign ministers' meeting, the first high-level political dialogue meeting between the EU and Palestine will take place, with the participation of Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, to discuss cooperation prospects, bilateral relations, and fulfilling the needs of the Palestinians.
