17/ UNRWA Chief: Gaza is "living hell" amid starvation and daily bombardment

Amman, April 14 (Petra) – United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said on Monday the Gaza Strip is a "living hell" and is getting worse amid a deterioration in the humanitarian situation after Israel resumed the war of genocide.

In remarks at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, Lazzarini said "there is absolutely no safe place in the Gaza Strip," adding that the residents of Gaza are facing daily bombardment, widespread and worsening starvation, disease, and exceptionally squalid conditions.

He said Israel's systematic killing of 15 paramedics and civil defense personnel in late March was a new level of escalation, as the individual's identities were clearly known, in a stark violation of the international humanitarian law.

"What happened was undeniable, and it looked they were systematically killed, one by one," he said.

Lazzarini called for an independent international investigation into the incident and for those responsible to be brought to account. He warned that relief aid in Gaza was nearly completely depleted, adding "there is no longer any aid to distribute" after the crossing was closed a month ago.
