15/ Regional Workshop to Combat Human Trafficking, Migrant Smuggling Opens
Amman, April 14 (Petra) – A regional workshop on collecting and analyzing data on combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling kicked off in Amman on Monday, bringing together international experts, representatives of regional and international organizations, and government officials from Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, and Morocco. Organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the three-day workshop aims to enhance regional cooperation and capacity-building in the field of data collection and analysis related to human trafficking and migrant smuggling. Walid Kanakrieh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice for Judicial Affairs and Vice Chairman of the National Committee for the Prevention of Human Trafficking, emphasized Jordan’s commitment to aligning with international standards in the protection of human rights. He highlighted the importance of accurate data and comprehensive analysis in guiding early detection, strategic planning, and the implementation of effective countermeasures. Jordan, he said boosted its legal frameworks, activated international partnerships, and invested in building national capacities in the areas of monitoring, analysis, and investigation. He added that the Kingdom also acted to set up unified databases on tracking human trafficking and migrant smuggling crimes, training personnel in advanced analytical tools, and fostering international knowledge exchange using artificial intelligence in crime detection. The workshop also tackles enhancing cooperation across national and regional institutions, improving victim protection strategies, and ensuring effective prosecution of offenders. //Petra// AO
