13/ Industry Drives 40 Percent of Economic Growth, Maintains Strong Performance Despite Regional Challenages
Amman, April 14 (Petra) – Jordan’s industrial sector recorded real growth of 4.4 percent in 2024 compared with 2023, contributing 40 percent of the Kingdom’s total economic growth, despite regional instability and global economic pressures. In a statement on Monday, Chairperson of the Jordan Chamber of Industry Fathi Jaghbir said the industrial sector has firmly positioned itself as a key engine of economic activity and growth in the Kingdom. He highlighted the sector’s resilience and reputation, underscoring its capacity to deliver results that exceeded expectations despite challenging circumstances. Jaghbir stressed that industry now serves as the cornerstone of the national economy and a central pillar of the Economic Modernization Vision. He attributed the sector’s growth to positive developments across several sub-sectors, including a 5.5 percent increase in mining, 4.2 percent in manufacturing, and 4.8 percent in the electricity and water sector. Industrial output, at current prices, reached JD8.6 billion in 2024, directly accounting for 23 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), making industry the highest-contributing sector to the national economy. Jaghbir noted that this robust performance reflects years of cumulative development, global trust in Jordanian industry, and the ability to turn challenges into opportunities that enhance production capacity and improve the industrial environment. He expressed optimism for further progress in 2025, particularly with government support through effective implementation of the Economic Modernization Vision’s initiatives. He called for greater efforts to boost competitiveness and maximize opportunities in local, regional, and global markets. He further stated that industrial exports grew by 1.4 percent in 2024 compared to 2023, reaching more than JD7.8 billion, representing approximately 92 percent of total national exports. //Petra// AJ
