5/ 306,000 Mobile Phones Imported in Q1 2025 Amid Rising Global Prices
Amman, April 13 (Petra) -- A total of 306,000 mobile phones were imported into the Kingdom during the first quarter of 2025, with a combined value of JD 38.6 million, according to a statement released Sunday by the Association of Mobiles and Accessories Investors (Vision). Import figures for the first quarter nearly matched those recorded during the same period in 2024 in terms of value, which stood at JD 38.4 million. However, the number of imported devices declined from 450,000 units last year. Ahmad Alloush, president of the association, attributed the lower volume to a global rise in mobile phone prices observed in early 2025. He noted that the average price per device reached approximately USD 830 in the United States, USD 900 in South Korea, and USD 560 in China. Alloush pointed to variations in consumer demand as the main reason for the pricing differences. High-end smartphones account for the majority of sales in the U.S. and South Korea, whereas mid-range and budget models are more prevalent in the Chinese market. //Petra// RZ
