25/ House Speaker meets Japan, Australia ambassadors on ties
Amman, April 13 (Petra) -- Speaker of the House of Representatives Ahmad Safadi held separate meetings on Sunday with the ambassadors of Japan and Australia to discuss relations, particularly in the parliamentary sphere. In a meeting with the Japanese ambassador, Safadi said His Majesty King Abdullah II values the need of strengthen Jordan's ties with Japan, noting Tokyo's vital support in various fields. He discussed the urgent need to halt the Israeli ongoing war in Gaza and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, praising Japan's contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Japanese Ambassador Asari Hideki said King Abdullah II serves as a "voice of moderation and consistently" advocates for peace. He highlighted the necessity of heeding the King's message for peace and security in the region. Hideki reaffirmed Japan's commitment to Jordan, stating that the country views Jordan as a reliable partner. He noted ongoing programmes with several civil society organisations in Jordan and expressed Japan's concern over the situation in Gaza, reiterating support for the two-state solution and Jordan's efforts to achieve regional stability and provide aid. During a meeting with the Australian ambassador, Safadi highlighted the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between Jordan and Australia, which spans a century and is based on shared interests. He underscored the importance of increasing trade between the two nations. Australian Ambassador Bernard Lynch affirmed Australia's support for Jordan's initiatives to enhance security and stability in the region, emphasising the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza.
