12/ JCDC Reviews Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring Report to Strengthen National Response

Amman, April 13 (Petra) – The Jordan Center for Epidemics and Communicable Diseases (JCDC) held a meeting to review the national antimicrobial resistance (AMR) monitoring report, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Health, academia, the private sector, and relevant professional associations.

In a statement on Sunday, the center said the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to establish a specialized working group to monitor and analyze data related to AMR trends and assess the effectiveness of interventions under the national plan for 2023–2025.

Participants reviewed the Ministry of Health’s report, which compiles laboratory and hospital data, with the aim of improving data accuracy and enhancing national surveillance systems.

JCDC Director Adel Balbisi underscored the critical role of surveillance in informing national health policies and promoting the responsible use of antibiotics. He noted that these efforts align with Jordan’s obligations under the World Health Organization’s Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS).

Balbisi also emphasized the report’s value as a reference tool in shaping health strategies and guiding the rational use of antibiotics. He pointed out that this initiative reflects the center’s mandate under Regulation No. 112, which outlines its responsibilities in coordinating AMR control strategies and integrating national monitoring efforts with global frameworks.

The team reaffirmed its commitment to a comprehensive scientific and technical review of the report in coordination with JCDC. This review will include a gap analysis and technical recommendations aimed at enhancing the national system’s resilience in addressing AMR-related health challenges and ensuring long-term effectiveness.
