21/ Gaza facing severe shortages; infants going to bed hungry, UNRWA warns
Amman, April 12 (Petra) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that all essential supplies are running out in Gaza, "leaving infants to go to sleep hungry." In a statement released Saturday, Juliette Touma, UNRWA's Director of Communications, urged immediate action to avert the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. Touma emphasized that, after six weeks of an Israeli-imposed blockade preventing the entry of aid and commercial supplies, "food stocks have nearly vanished, bakeries are shutting down, and hunger is spreading rapidly." She called for urgent international intervention to allow humanitarian assistance into the besieged territory and prevent the crisis from spiraling further. //Petra// AF
