11/ UN Coordinator: 60,000 children under five in Gaza malnurished as Israel blocks aid
Amman, April 12 (Petra) – United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Humanitarian Coordinator for Gaza Sigrid Kaag said on Saturday that more than 60,000 children under the age of five in the Gaza Strip suffer from malnutrition. She told the Turkish Anadolu Agency, on the sidelines of her participation in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, that humanitarian aid sent by the UN to Gaza during the ceasefire agreement reached intended people without problems, and the flow of aid continued under the agreement. However, since the second half of last month, the Israeli occupation forces had blocked the entry of aid, she added. Kaag said humanitarian workers are facing a shortage of equipment to carry out their operations, and fuel needed to operate hospitals ran out, disrupting the aid distribution. She pointed out that the occupation authority is obliged under the international law to permit humanitarian aid into Gaza, stressing the urgent need to deliver supplies. The UN official said the occupation army's attacks on Gaza not only target civilians, but also terrify humanitarian aid workers, most of whom are Palestinian civilians. //Petra//SS
