20/ Labor ministry 'keen' to regulate Jordan's expatriate worker affairs-Bakkar
Irbid, November 21 (Petra) - Minister of Labor, Dr. Khaled Bakkar, said the ministry is "keen" to regulate affairs of expatriate workers in the Kingdom to ensure their compliance with the provisions of Jordanian law, noting that the issue of accumulated fines on Syrian labor force is "still currently being examined". During a dialogue seminar at Al-Naima Cultural Forum on Wednesday evening, Bakkar noted action to regulate and monitor the labor market is the ministry's responsibility, under its law and regulations, aimed to ensure a "safe and attractive" workplace in the private sector and achieve "balance" in the worker-employer rights. The ministry, he noted, works under an "integrated" policy with other competent public institutions to train Jordan's young people on the necessary skills to join the labor market. Noting importance of small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), he said Development and Employment Fund provides funding for this purpose, while the Skills Development Commission offers capital and operational support to the 31 production units and branches, aimed to secure development in the Kingdom's governorates. Regarding the minimum wage hike, the minister said this issue is the responsibility of the tripartite committee, who are comprised of representatives of workers, employers and the government, and will announce the increase. //Petra// AG
