5/ Jordan Among Leading Participants in Doha Arabic Book Award 2024
Doha, Nov. 20 (Petra) -- The inaugural edition of the Doha Arabic Book Award has attracted 1,261 nominations from 35 Arab and Islamic countries, according to a statement published on the award’s official website on Wednesday. Jordan is among the top contributors, ranking fifth in the number of submissions, the statement noted. Launched in March, the award aims to enrich the Arabic library by encouraging individuals and institutions to present distinguished intellectual works, recognizing rigorous research, and promoting it on a wider scale. The organizing committee highlighted that entries are being assessed across five categories. Submissions underwent preliminary screening to ensure compliance with the award’s criteria before advancing to the first evaluation phase. The second phase of judging is currently underway and is expected to conclude by mid-December. The award features two categories: the "Individual Book" category and the "Achievement" category. For the "Individual Book" category, submissions must be written in Arabic, focus on one of the award’s specified fields, have been published in print with an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) within the last three years, contain at least 30,000 words, and follow established scientific and citation standards. The "Achievement" category recognizes individuals or institutions for their significant contributions to Arabic culture. Eligible works must exhibit originality, innovation, and substantial additions to intellectual and cultural discourse. //Petra// RZ
