43/ Israel accused of committing massacres in Lebanon
Amman, November 20 (Petra) -- The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reported that the Israeli army has significantly escalated its military operations since the beginning of November, committing several massacres that have resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians in Lebanon, most of whom were women, children and the elderly. In a statement released on Wednesday, the monitor urged adhering to international humanitarian law, which requires warring parties to distinguish between civilians and combatants at all times during armed conflict. The organisation noted that even if claims of targeting military leaders are accurate, it remains unacceptable to conduct military targets in civilian areas, where the principles of international humanitarian law are blatantly disregarded. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor called for establishing a United Nations investigation committee to examine the violations and international crimes committed in Lebanon. It urged the international community to fulfill its responsibility in monitoring and enforcing international humanitarian law, demanding an end to these violations, which amount to war crimes and calling for the punishment of those responsible. //Petra// AK
