Amman, November 17 (Petra) – The agricultural producer price index in Jordan declined by 17.9 percent by the end of the third quarter of this year, standing at 108.9 points compared to 132.7 points during the same period in 2023, according to the Department of Statistics. In a report released on Sunday, the department attributed the decline to decreased prices for several key crops, including tomatoes, various types of peppers, cauliflower, and bananas, which collectively held a relative importance of 40 percent. However, the index also recorded price increases for crops such as potatoes, zucchini, eggplants, and cucumbers, representing a relative importance of 60 percent. On a monthly basis, the agricultural producer price index for September 2024 rose by 1.2 percent, reaching 100.2 points compared to 99.0 points in September 2023. The report highlighted that this increase was driven by rising prices for grapes, green corn, olives, potatoes, and strawberries, accounting for 55.5 percent of the total index commodities. Conversely, prices fell for tomatoes, green cabbage, green sweet peppers, green onions, and cauliflower, which represented 44.5 percent of the total. The report also noted that the September 2024 index declined by 0.9 percent compared to August 2024, dropping from 101.2 points to 100.2 points. This decrease was attributed to lower prices for tomatoes, figs, spinach, pomegranates, and cauliflower, which collectively accounted for 53.6 percent of the commodities measured. Meanwhile, prices rose for strawberries, pomelos, zucchini, yellow peaches, and green onions, which had a relative importance of 46.4 percent. //Petra// AJ
