14/ JCC rules out reports on imposing financial cap on purchases via postal parcels
Amman, Nov 16 (Petra) The Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) emphasized that e-commerce has become an essential force shaping the global economy and reiterated its commitment to encouraging the commercial sector to enhance sales and marketing strategies in order to keep pace with the rapid advancements in business operations. In a statement released on Saturday, the JCC explained that recent reports regarding the imposition of a financial cap on purchases via postal parcels are inaccurate, as it does not have the authority to issue such decisions. The statement further explained that setting a cap for each customer, irrespective of the purchase amount, does not imply restricting one's right to buy; individuals are free to purchase from any source and for any amount they desire. The JCC called for a study on establishing a cap on purchases exempt from sales tax and other fees typically paid by regular merchants. This would allow citizens and families to benefit from these exemptions up to a specified amount, beyond which additional fees would apply, rather than outright restricting purchases beyond that limit. The JCC further emphasized that its primary demand has always been to achieve parity between foreign companies and Jordanian merchants regarding the rates of sales tax, income tax, customs duties, and other fees. It noted that many countries have opted to limit exemptions on postal parcels as a means of protecting their local economies in all its sectors. //Petra// AF
