Irbid, Nov 16 (Petra) -- A research team from Yarmouk University's Faculty of Science filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for promising pharmaceutical formulations to treat cancer.

The team was headed by Dr. Shahada Mazyed and comprised Dr. Khaled Abu Khadra of the Department of Life Sciences, researcher Huda Al-Saadi, in addition to Dr. Firas Al-Awadi and Dr. Areej Assaf of the University of Jordan.

They managed to register a patent under the title: Pharmaceutical formulations from Benzoxazepine derivatives for the treatment of cancer.

"The patent includes heterogeneous cyclic compounds that proved effective in combating some cancerous tumors and the preparation of these formulations and method of cancer treatment by giving an effective amount of medication," Mazyed said.

The researchers, he added, carry on with developing these compositions to ensure accurate and effective results.

"This breakthrough is of great significance for development of the pharmaceutical industry and applied scientific research, and reflects the qualitative efforts of Yarmouk University in its support of researchers to offer innovative outputs that contribute to enhancing the university's reputation and global status," Mazyed said.
