Amman, July 24 (Petra) -- The Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, welcomed the announcement made by the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, on Wednesday that the Yemeni government and the Houthis have agreed on de-escalation measures regarding the banking sector and Yemeni airlines.

Albudaiwi expressed the GCC's support for regional and international efforts and the efforts led by the UN Special Envoy to Yemen aimed at achieving peace and security in Yemen, stressing that this announcement comes as a confirmation of the importance that the international community attaches to the Yemeni crisis.

He expressed his hope that this declaration will contribute to preparing the atmosphere for the Yemeni parties to start the political process under the auspices of the United Nations to reach a comprehensive political solution that achieves security and stability in Yemen.

He reiterated the GCC's continued support for Yemen, its government, and its people, and its keenness to encourage all de-escalation efforts and maintain calm to reach the desired peace.
