23/ Election campaign finance monitoring committee discusses control mechanisms of candidate lists spending

Amman, July 24 (Petra) - The Election Campaign Finance Monitoring and Spending Control Committee discussed the new executive instructions for 2024 related to the disclosure of campaign finance resources and controlling their spending, based on the provisions of Article 27 of the Election Law.

According to a statement, the meeting, held at the Independent Election Commission (IEC) headquarters on Wednesday, dealt with organizing the committee's work mechanism, determining aspects of financial spending, opening bank accounts for candidates within the general lists, and discussing the details of election campaign expenses.

The IEC chairs the committee, and its members include representatives from the Central Bank, the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Audit Bureau, the Association of Banks in Jordan, and the Money Laundering Unit.

The committee is responsible for monitoring the financing of electoral campaigns, ensuring the legality and conformity of spending to the maximum allowable limit, and auditing the bank accounts associated with the electoral lists.

The committee monitors compliance with the financial restrictions imposed on funding, monitors any irregularities in financing election campaigns and related activities, and monitors electoral advertising, verifying that all forms of advertising are carried out using legal and legitimate practices and preventing any illegal financial support.
