20/ BAU, ALECSO launch smart agriculture technology forum

Salt, July 24 (Petra) - President of Al- Balqa' Applied University (BAU), Dr. Ahmed Ajlouni, on Wednesday opened the Forum for Startups and Innovative Companies in Smart Agricultural Technology, which was organized in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ajlouni said the university believes that creative youth are a "key" driver for achieving people’s progress and sustainable development.

Ajlouni noted the BAU's endeavor to create an educational environment that spurs students to think "critically and independently," and provide "qualitative" learning and infrastructure to enable students to turn their ideas into feasible projects that contribute to the society's progress.

Meanwhile, ALECSO Director, Dr. Mohammad Abu Darwish, said this Arab institution seeks to support creativity and innovation among Arab youth and network them with entrepreneurs, non-governmental organizations and business incubators.

On its future plans, he said ALECSO is moving forward in implementing projects and initiatives to develop entrepreneurship and innovation, praising the BAU's "pioneering" role in developing technical, artistic and applied education and providing its alumni with innovative skills and capabilities.

He added that the university's vision aligns with the "urgent" need to advance the innovation process in the agricultural field, which forms the basis for achieving food security and confronting climate change.

The forum went over opportunities to invest in medicinal plants, strategies for building "successful" farming technology startups, entrepreneurship in the agricultural food technology, and a presentation of innovative productive agricultural projects for students of the BAU's College of Agriculture, according to a BAU statement.
