Jerash, July 22 (Petra) - Thirteen underprivileged families in Jerash Governorate received new homes on Monday as part of a royal initiative for housing underprivileged families, established under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II during his field visits and meetings with the people and notables of the governorate.

Launched in 2005, the Housing for Underprivileged Families Initiative spans all governorates of the Kingdom, aiming to provide a decent living for the most needy and deserving families who live in unsafe homes at risk of collapse. Beneficiaries are selected based on principles approved by the Ministry of Social Development, ensuring justice and transparency by considering family size, income level, and health status.

Youssef Issawi, Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court and the committee following up on the implementation of His Majesty’s initiatives, handed over the benefit certificates and housing keys to the beneficiary families.

Issawi and attendees toured the new housing units, which cater to the needs of the beneficiary families, especially the elderly and people with special needs. The homes are furnished and equipped with various household supplies, necessary electrical appliances, and services to meet the beneficiaries' needs.

Under direct royal directives, housing units are periodically distributed to families across various regions of the Kingdom. This initiative aims to provide new housing to needy families living in inadequate conditions, especially in poverty-stricken areas, ensuring comfort and tranquility.

During his visit to the Governorate, Issawi inspected the progress of the "Semi-Olympic Indoor" swimming pool project. This project is part of the first phase of developing the Jerash Sports Complex, as directed by King Abdullah, to transform it into an integrated sports city.

The swimming pool and its facilities are being constructed in an area of 1,300 square meters. The project includes a 25-meter-long swimming pool, an amphitheater, administrative offices, and a services building, along with outdoor parking spaces.

The project, which has reached about 85 percent completion, is expected to be finished by early September, with future phases aiming to complete the sports complex and host various sporting events.

The complex will feature five-a-side and volleyball courts, gardens, parks, parking lots, and terraces with a seating capacity of 208, spanning a total area of 5,700 square meters. Similar projects are planned for other governorates, with sports complexes under development in Balqa and Karak.

Youth empowerment is a top priority for King Abdullah, who consistently initiates programs to support young people and harness their energy through sports centers and stadiums. These facilities provide opportunities for youth to engage in various sports, develop their talents, and foster creativity in a safe environment, particularly in remote areas.
