17/ JSMO Closes 4 Gas Stations in H1 of 2024

Amman, July 22 (Petra) - The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) announced it closed down four gas stations and referred five others and four tankers who were found in violation of standards to the Public Prosecutor during the first half of 2024.

It also issued warnings to five commercial establishments for tampering with the quantities of pre-packaged products during the same period.

JSMO teams inspected 10,000 fuel dispensers and about 4,700 domestic gas cylinders in a crackdown on tampering with cylinder weights and meters, it said.

During routine inspections of fuel stations, it tested over 600 specimens to verify compliance with national standards, and also examined around 540 samples from tankers arriving in the Port of Aqaba to ensure petroleum products met the required specifications and standards before allowing them to dock and unload cargo.

The organization also checked 1,450 scales and floor balances, 1,100 types of pre-packaged products as well as 9,550 taxi meters in the first half of the year, adding that it received 229 complaints regarding fuel stations, tankers, weights, scales, and measurement tools.

It called on the public to report such complaints by phone or social media and the organization's website.
