Amman, December 19 (Petra) – Jordan participated in the 41st session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Construction and the 8th Arab Housing Conference, held in Algiers from December 17 to 19. Representing the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Jordanian Ambassador to Algeria, Shaker Amoush, emphasized Jordan's ongoing efforts to update its national housing strategy in alignment with global, regional, and Arab housing policies, including the Union for the Mediterranean strategy and the New Urban Agenda. Amoush highlighted that Jordan is advancing steadily in line with the Economic Modernization Vision spearheaded by His Majesty King Abdullah II, serving as a roadmap to improve livelihoods, enhance service delivery, and promote urban development principles. These include innovative planning methods, the expansion of green spaces and public parks, sustainable urban design, and the integration of clean energy solutions. He further underscored the government's commitment to providing adequate housing for all societal segments as part of its broader goal to foster social and economic security. Key initiatives under the Economic Modernization Vision include developing a low-cost housing model, drafting a new housing sector law, and establishing criteria for future cities. Amoush conveyed Jordan’s gratitude and greetings to Algeria and participating countries, praising the exemplary coordination between Algeria, the Arab League, and related technical committees that ensured the conference's success. During the conference, Jumana Attiyat, Director General of the General Corporation for Housing and Urban Development, presented a paper titled Urban Development in the Modernization Vision. The paper explored urban planning’s role in sustainable development and initiatives, such as standards for future cities and a low-cost housing model under Jordan’s economic modernization vision. Additionally, Attiyat highlighted the al-Malha Housing Project in Deir Alla as a national example of social housing, supported by a documentary film. //Petra// AJ
