7/ Agreements Signed to Expand Natural Gas Use in Industrial Sector

Amman, Dec. 18 (Petra) – The Jordanian Egyptian Fajr Natural Gas Company, Advanced Central Gas Company (Progas), Tanmiah for Natural Gas, and Classic Fashion Apparel have signed agreements to connect and supply natural gas to the main compressed natural gas station project in Al-Hashimiyah, Zarqa.

The agreements focus on linking the natural gas measurement and reduction station, owned by the Jordanian Egyptian Fajr Natural Gas Company, to a new compressed natural gas station to be developed by Progas. This station will transport and distribute natural gas to factories located far from existing gas networks.

The initiative aims to leverage the cost-efficiency of natural gas, offering savings of 30 to 60 percent compared to conventional fuels, depending on usage.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, who oversaw the signing ceremony, emphasized the agreements as part of Jordan’s national project to extend natural gas access to industrial clusters. The initiative aims to reduce energy costs, attract investments, create jobs, and bolster the national economy.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to deliver gas to other industrial hubs, such as the Rawda Industrial Zone in Ma’an and the Muwaqqar Industrial Estate.

The project’s first phase will provide a production capacity of 160,000 cubic meters of compressed natural gas daily to specialized tankers. These tankers will supply factories, including those in Mafraq Industrial City, which houses ready-made garment manufacturers.

Fouad Rashad, CEO of the Jordanian Egyptian Fajr Natural Gas Company, noted that integrating natural gas into industrial operations reduces costs, attracts investments, and supports environmental sustainability.

Progas CEO Fadi Al Shoubaki described the agreement as a stepping stone for future collaborations aimed at enhancing industrial competitiveness.

The project incorporates advanced technologies, including remote monitoring and control systems, and adheres to international standards for compressors and rapid distribution equipment. This ensures operational efficiency and safety for the main supply station, tankers, and sub-reduction stations.

The agreements mark a significant milestone as the first of their kind in Jordan, enabling the establishment of compressed natural gas infrastructure to serve factories outside existing networks.
