34/ 66.1 million Arabs faced hunger in 2023, UN report reveals
New York, Dec. 18 (Petra) – A UN report has warned that hunger is worsening in the Arab region, leaving millions of people without sufficient access to food. The report, titled "Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition in the Near East and North Africa 2024," revealed that 66.1 million people, representing about 14% of the region's population, faced hunger in 2023. It further noted that approximately 186.5 million people, or 39.4% of the population, experienced food insecurity, with 72.7 million of them suffering from severe food insecurity. The report highlighted that conflict remains the primary driver of food insecurity and malnutrition in the region. Additionally, economic challenges, high income inequalities, and severe climate impacts also play significant roles in exacerbating the crisis. //Petra// AF
