23/ Interior Minister, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Discuss Cooperation
Amman, Dec. 18 (Petra) – Interior Minister Mazen Faraya met on Wednesday with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Mashhadani and his parliamentary delegation during their official visit to Jordan, underscoring the strong historical ties between the two nations. Faraya highlighted the deep social, economic, and security relations between Jordan and Iraq, emphasizing Jordan's commitment, under royal directives, to expanding cooperation in ways that serve shared interests. He noted the stability of the Jordanian-Iraqi borders, attributing this to effective bilateral security coordination. Addressing regional challenges, Faraya stressed the need for intensified regional collaboration to combat the rising threat of drug smuggling, particularly along the Syrian front. He reaffirmed Jordan's readiness to facilitate the entry and residence of Iraqis in accordance with national laws, noting the positive role of the 117,000-strong Iraqi community in Jordan. Mashhadani expressed gratitude for Jordan's steadfast support for Iraq, emphasizing the importance of advancing economic cooperation and benefiting from Jordan's expertise in areas such as water and climate security.
