53/ French-supported training of trainers project on environment, climate change concluded

Amman, December 17 (Petra) – The Jordan Environment Society (JES) concluded on Tuesday its "Training of Trainers in Environmental and Climate Change" project, which was supported by the French Embassy, during a ceremony held at the National Library Hall.

In his speech at the event, honorary president of the society, Samih Al-Maaytah, emphasized the importance of such initiatives carried out by the JES. He stressed that the environment is no longer a luxury but has become an essential part of societal security.
Al-Maaytah pointed out that neglecting the environment exposes populations to many risks, in addition to its negative impacts on agriculture, water, and many sectors related to the environment. He clarified that environmental efforts are interconnected with all aspects of life, and that the Environment Society represents a distinguished model that significantly contributes to raising environmental awareness.

He emphasized the need to address environmental issues seriously through awareness and culture, noting that environmental issues and the disasters caused by humans leave significant effects, which, in turn, have a wide-ranging negative impact on health and humanity. He also highlighted that, should the aggression against Gaza end, a greater effort will be required to eliminate the repercussions of the war.

For his part, the Head of Cooperation at the French Embassy, Luc Xavier, stated that the project addresses many environmental topics, with the preservation of the environment and combating climate change being global issues. He noted that the project trained 225 teachers from public and private schools to enhance their capabilities in environmental matters.

The Director General of the National Library, Nidal Ayasra, confirmed that the library is ready to host environmental programs and events, praising the efforts of the Environment Society and its role in raising awareness about the importance of the environment and its preservation.

He added that the library will sign an agreement with the society in the areas of cooperation, partnership, and recycling, given the full trust in the society's importance and standing.

Furthermore, at the event, several supporters and winners of the Media and Climate Change competition launched by the JES were honored.

The event was attended by the representative of the Minister of Environment, Assistant Secretary-General Abdul Majid Khabor, Director General of the Agricultural Credit Corporation, Mohammad Dujan, Head of the Parliamentary Tourism and Antiquities Committee, MP Wasfi Haddad, Head of the Ajloun Governorate Council Omar Momani, and the representative of the CEO of First Insurance Company Solidarity, Ramzi Al-Ghoul, along with several representatives from the Education Directorates in Amman, Jerash, Ajloun, and Irbid, as well as society members and their heads.
