London, Dec. 17 (Petra) – The United Kingdom imposed new sanctions on Russia today, targeting 20 ships in what is known as the Russian "shadow fleet." These ships, according to the UK, are used in illegal practices to bypass sanctions imposed on Russian oil.

In a statement, the British government explained that the sanctioned vessels had each carried more than 4 million barrels of Russian oil this year.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated, "These sanctions will contribute to increasing pressure on the struggling Russian economy."

Starmer also announced an emergency aid package of £35 million to help Ukraine repair its energy network.
