47/ Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon leaves several casualties
Beirut, Dec. 16 (Petra) – Three people were injured in an airstrike carried out by an Israeli drone on the Al-Najjariya area in the Sidon district, southern Lebanon. A Lebanese security source reported that Israeli warplanes also targeted the outskirts of the town of Al-Bassariyeh. Meanwhile, Israeli drones have been flying at low altitudes over the southern suburbs of Beirut and the Lebanese capital since the morning. The source added that the Israeli army is detonating and demolishing homes in the town of Nakoura, while simultaneously advancing into the town with tanks. An infantry force is also conducting raids in Nakoura using heavy machine guns. Politically, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati reiterated the importance of adhering to the measures taken to halt the firing and ensure its continuity, particularly the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Mikati made this statement during a meeting in Beirut with his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who expressed that the international community, along with Greece, is doing its utmost to ensure respect for the ceasefire and the full implementation of Resolution 1701, which guarantees Lebanon's full sovereignty over its territory and provides the conditions for lasting peace and security for its people.
