39/ Infant formula shortage in Gaza puts lives of 8,500 babies at severe risk, UNRWA warns
Amman, Dec. 16 (Petra) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced on Monday that its stock of infant formula in Gaza is nearly depleted, putting the lives of approximately 8,500 infants at severe risk. In a statement posted on its X account, UNRWA revealed that only six boxes of infant formula remain, which are critical for sustaining the nutrition of thousands of infants in the blockaded region. The agency emphasized that the shortage endangers not only infants but also over 200,000 people who depend on its services in Gaza. UNRWA also reported that around 19,000 children in Gaza have been hospitalized due to severe acute malnutrition over the past four months a figure that has doubled compared to earlier this year. The agency called for urgent action to address the dire humanitarian needs in Gaza, particularly for vulnerable groups such as infants and children suffering from malnutrition. //Petra// AF
