31/ New Export Strategy Launched With Focus On U.S. Walmart Market
Amman, Dec. 16 (Petra) -- Jordan's commercial sector has unveiled an ambitious two-year export strategy aimed at penetrating major international markets, with a particular focus on securing shelf space in U.S. retail giant Walmart, officials announced Monday. Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yousef Qudah, launched Jordan Exports' 2025-2026 action plan, emphasizing the need to shift toward targeted client-specific export approaches rather than traditional market-wide strategies. The initiative is supported by USAID's Economic Reform Program. "The industrial sector is the primary driver of Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision," Qudah said during the launch ceremony. He highlighted how the sector creates jobs, enhances local product value, promotes modern technology adoption, and stimulates growth. The new strategy includes comprehensive technical qualification, logistics support, and export consultancy services specifically designed to help Jordanian companies access Walmart's global supply chain. The plan aligns with Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision and National Export Strategy, targeting markets across the United States, Singapore, European Union, Rwanda, and various Arab countries. According to Wisam Rabadi, Chairman of Jordan Exports, the U.S. market represents a significant growth opportunity for Jordanian exporters. The company plans to establish a logistics center in the United States to facilitate direct product delivery to American buyers. Jordanian exports to the United States reached 1.712 billion dinars in the first nine months of 2024, marking a 17.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. International estimates suggest Jordan has untapped export potential worth approximately $949 million in the U.S. market. USAID Mission Director Leslie Reed reaffirmed the agency's commitment to empowering Jordan's private sector, emphasizing that the collaboration with Jordan Exports demonstrates USAID's dedication to ensuring Jordanian companies can generate opportunities for future generations. The Jordan-U.S. Free Trade Agreement has proven particularly successful, with national exports growing at an annual rate of 18 percent throughout the agreement's duration, although apparel currently accounts for 87 percent of exports to America, according to Jordan Chamber of Industry Vice President Hani Abu Hassan. //Petra// AA
