24/ Senate Palestine Committee, British Ambassador Discuss Palestinian Cause

Amman, December 16 (Petra) - The Palestine Committee in the Senate, chaired by Senator Mazen Darwazeh, held a meeting on Monday with British Ambassador to the Kingdom, Philip Hall, to discuss important regional issues, with a focus on the Palestinian cause.

During the meeting, Senator Darwazeh emphasized the critical need for enhanced international efforts to achieve stability and security in the region and to halt all forms of violence, particularly the ongoing Israeli assaults on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

He reiterated that despite the ongoing challenges, the Palestinian cause remains central to Jordan's policy, its leadership, and its people. He underscored Jordan's commitment to defending the rights of the Palestinian people until they establish their independent state, with east Jerusalem as its capital.

Darwazeh also stressed the importance of respecting the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem, highlighting the necessity of supporting His Majesty King Abdullah II's steadfast positions on the Palestinian cause and the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem to safeguard its Arab, Islamic, and Christian identity.

Hall highlighted the depth of Jordanian-British relations and expressed the UK's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Jordan across various sectors.

He reiterated the United Kingdom's support for the two-state solution, which he stated is essential for ending the conflict and realizing the aspirations of the peoples in the region for peace and stability.

The committee members, for their part, emphasized the urgency of international efforts to halt the Israeli war on Gaza and to ensure the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid, calling for decisive international stances to resolve the Palestinian issue and secure lasting peace in the region.
