Amman, December 16 (Petra) – President of the Senate Faisal Fayez highlighted the strategic importance of the proposed Iraqi-Jordanian oil pipeline during talks with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Mashhadani, who is on his first official visit abroad since assuming office.

Held in Amman on Monday, Fayez underscored the depth of Jordanian-Iraqi ties, emphasizing that relations are rooted in mutual respect, shared strategic interests, and a commitment to advancing pan-Arab efforts. He stressed Jordan’s steadfast support for Iraq's unity, security, and territorial integrity, reiterating His Majesty King Abdullah II's commitment to bolstering collaboration across economic, political, and security spheres.

Addressing broader Arab challenges, Fayez warned of threats resembling a "new Sykes-Picot" and called for united efforts against regional challenages. He condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank, asserting Jordan's opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians and any resolution to the Palestinian issue at Jordan's expense.

On Syria, Fayez affirmed Jordan's support for a unified and stable Syrian state, highlighting the need for international intervention to halt Israeli incursions into Syrian territories, including the occupied Golan Heights. He called for the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces and urged the international community to enforce measures against ongoing violations.

For his part, Mashhadani stressed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening ties with Jordan across political, economic, and security domains, while highlighting the significance of Arab unity in addressing regional issues. He praised Jordan’s historic support for Iraq during times of crisis and expressed appreciation for Jordan’s leadership on regional stability.

Mashhadani described his visit to Jordan as a testament to the two nations’ geographical proximity, shared history, and enduring partnership.
