7/ JEF dialogue highlights pros of SSC Law amendments on pensioners
Amman, Oct. 6 (Petra)- Jordan Economic Forum (JEF) organized a dialogue session, on amendments related to Social Security Corporation (SSC)'s Law. Addressing the event, on Wednesday evening, JEF Chairman, MP Khair Abu Sa’ilek, lauded SSC's role and its programs during the Covid-19 pandemic and their positive impact on businesses, subscribers and the national economy, adding that SSC is a safety valve for society, and plays a "growing" role in social and economic fields. Abu Sa'ilek said these amendments would achieve justice and increase benefits within "balanced" mechanisms and studies to fulfill the SSC's mission for all current and future generations. For his part, SSC's Director General, Hazem Rahhaleh, said amendments stemmed from corporation's social and national responsibility, especially in light of loopholes in the insurance system, which requires to be addressed "quickly". Amendments would achieve more social justice and social solidarity and would benefit 27, 000 families once the amended law is approved, he noted. The draft law would allow about 50,000 early retirees to benefit from inflation-based annual increase next May, he said, noting that this measure falls within the proposed package to protect pensioners with medium and low salaries. In addition, he noted amendments aim to revamp conditions for the heirs' entitlement to pensions, as 6, 750 people will benefit once law takes effect, he noted. The draft also features a new mechanism for amending minimum pension salary, linked annually to the average wages of SSC subscribers, especially since 18,000 retirees's salaries are less than JD200, he pointed out. //Petra// AG
